Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project

Goals of the LFRP:

The LFRP has a multifaceted mission focused on the preservation and revitalisation of Littlehampton Fort. Here are some key goals:

Structural Restoration:

The primary goal is to arrest the fort’s deterioration and restore its structural integrity. This includes addressing issues like crumbling walls, overgrown vegetation, and potential water damage.

Historical Preservation:

The project aims to preserve the fort’s historical significance. This involves research into the fort’s construction, military role, and place in local history. Educational resources and interpretive materials will be developed to share the fort’s story with the public.

A Brief History of the LFRP:

Formed in 2011, the LFRP began as a grassroots initiative driven by Andy Orpin’s desire to save the fort from further decay. Since then, the project has gained momentum, attracting a dedicated team of volunteers and garnering support from local residents and organisation's. The LFRP has secured funding through grants and donations, allowing them to make progress on initial restoration efforts.

Challenges and the Road Ahead:

The LFRP faces several challenges, including the extensive restoration work required and the ongoing need for funding. However, the project’s dedication and the growing awareness of the fort’s historical importance are driving forces for its continued success.
